WHY WE MAKE WHAT WE MAKE
What’s PopLife
all about?
One of our crane cards went to friends whose engagement began with an origami crane for every day they’d dated. Another, a unicorn, stood on the memorial table for a mother who had always loved them.
Moments like these remind us of sonder: the realization that every person you pass is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
It’s the philosophy that drives PopLife, and it’s what our cards are for: marking life’s beautiful and sad moments with a bit of love, gratitude, or even a chuckle.
Nearly a million cards later, we’re nowhere near out of ideas, or reasons to celebrate.
PopLife’s Ethos
sonder
The realization that every person you pass is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
VIETNAM, 2012 · THE FIRST CHAPTER
Our Beginnings
PopLife started almost by accident. In 2012, co-founder Roxy was teaching English in public schools in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) when she came across street-side artisans turning plain sheets of paper into something extraordinary.
She’d never seen cards like them back home, so she filled her suitcase with as many as she could carry for family and friends. Their reactions convinced us there was something here worth sharing.
What began as a suitcase of souvenirs has become a genuine labor of love. We’re still a small crew, and we’re proud that PopLife’s roots remain in Vietnam, where we continue to support local craftspeople with steady work and fair trade practices.
